Jermain Taylor lost to Kelly Pavlik

“It was one of the best middleweight fights that I’ve seen,” promoter Bob Arum succinctly said of Kelly Pavlik’s seventh round knockout of Jermain Taylor to win.

Pavlik got knockout on the 2nd round, Pavlik was was behind on the score cards. Judges Guido Cavalleri and John Stewart had Taylor up 58-55 after six, while Julie Lederman awarded Pavlik only one round (her father HBO analyst Harold Lederman had Pavlik ahead 57-56).

“I definitely want a rematch,” said Taylor afterwards. “I think Kelly’s a great fighter and I would love another shot. I take my hat off to him. He got knocked down and came back,” said the former champion.

“If Jermain wants it, I’m ready,” Pavlik said of a rematch.

I think the referee Smoger is a racist piece of shit! It was totally unfair the way he treated the champion Jermain Taylor. He would have been so quick to stop the bout in the second round had Taylor received the punches that Pavlik did. What is so wrong about this fight is that Taylor took way less punishment in the 7th round than Pavlik took in the 2nd and Smoger stops the fight without giving Taylor a 10 count. What are rules for if the refs are just gonna ignore them? Every champion deserves to be counted out instead of having the fight stopped the first time he hits the canvas. Even the HBO scorer Ledderman was also on Pavlik's nuts by giving him the lead. You would have to be on crack to say Pavlik was winning at the time of the stoppage.
