Floyd Mayweather has decided to join the MMA

Who said participating in the TV show “Dancing with the Stars” won’t get you any where, thanks to the show Mayweather became good friends with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Cuban owns a mixed martial arts promotional company called HDNet Fights. He's put on two events so far, the latest in Dallas on Dec. 15. The bouts are shown on Cuban's HDNet.

Cuban told The Associated Press after the Mavericks' game that pound-for-pound fighter in the world Floyd Mayweather has decided to join the MMA.

The story was first reported by ESPN.com when Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser and best friend, told ESPN.com that the welterweight champion was seriously considering moving to the MMA.

“He knows it won’t be easy. But he is getting involved with MMA and HDNet Fights one way or another. He is pumped about it. He wants to go on to the next big thing. Floyd is a brilliant marketer. He follows the money. “Cuban told ESPN.

I am not sure if Mayweather is trying to become the next Bill Gates but his fights this year with Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya generated 3.25 million pay-per-view buys, more than $200 million in revenue and earned him about $50 million and joining the MMA is not going to help I cant see him getting more then a million (that is even a stretch) for a fight considering that the highest paid fighter in the UFC is Chuck Liddell earning approximately 500,000 per fight.

Floyd needs to understand what is involved MMA and Boxing is not the same, you just don't jump from being a boxer to an MMA fighter overnight few boxers, such as former heavyweight contenders Ray Mercer and Frans Botha, have attempted to compete in mixed martial arts with little success.

This is a promotional stunt, you think money man is going to take an 80% wage cut (that percentage is on the low end) just to fight MMA. There is no way that they can give him what he would earn in a rematch with Oscar, Hatton, or whoever the next challenger.

Mayweather is smart, he knows that people need someone to hate, and as long as he stays the same smug arrogant jerk people will always hate him. And as long as people hate him there are going to be people who want to pay to maybe see him get his ass handed to him.

All sports need heels (people to hate) in boxing it is Mayweather, in Nascar it is Jeff Gordon, in Baseball it is the Yankees. What’s your opinion?
