Homecoming

I was at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles today covering the Oscar De La Hoya and Steve Forbes press conference to announce their “Homecoming” event Saturday, May 3, 2008.
The May 3 bout will not only pit boxing’s reigning superstar against an underdog opponent, but will also bring back a taste of boxing’s golden age, when the top fighters competed in front of tens of thousands of diehard fight fans packed into huge stadiums.
Golden boy Promotions and there sponsors are going the extra mile to promote this event, the weekend will start with an evening filled with excitement featuring a live TeleFutura “Solo Boxeo” fight card and a Latin music concert on Friday, May 2. Following with the De La Hoya-Forbes event on Saturday night. Tecate beer will make a limited edition beer can featuring Oscar De La Hoya now that’s amazing I don’t recall the last time a boxer ever did that.
“I can’t even put into words how excited I am to fight at home in Los Angeles and to be able to have the fight in The Home Depot Center’s soccer stadium is just unbelievable,” said De La Hoya, whose last fight in the area was in 2000. “This is a dream come true and I am dedicating the whole weekend to all of my fans, those who will be there and those who get to see the bout on HBO rather than pay-per-view, as they are the ones who have supported and embraced me throughout the many years of my career. I promise to give them plenty to cheer about that night.”
Not only will this fight be exciting but also entertaining, the Mayweather family will be at both sides of the ring. Floyd Mayweather Senior will be at Oscar’s corner while Roger Mayweather will be in Steve Forbes corner, unfortunately uncle Roger couldn’t attend today’s press conference he over slept and missed his flight, should I say more…
But don’t let Uncle Roger’s clumsiness fool you Steve has never been on the canvas as an amateur or as a professional many people haven’t heart his name but never underestimate the under dog you seen what happen to the New England against the Giants.
Steve Forbes understands this will be his opportunity of a lifetime not to mention his biggest payday but an opportunity to boost his carrier. After talking to Forbes I was convince that he would be 110 percent ready.
Tickets start at just $25.00 and will go on sale to the public on Tuesday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. Individual tickets may be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 213-480-3232 or by visiting ticketsmaster.com.

We all know DLH is looking at this fight as a tune-up. He better watch out because he isn't the elite athlete he once was.
