Judging ain't easy
Here are a couple things that I liked and disliked about the show. First, how on Earth was David Diaz the first fight? He is the Lightweight champ of the world and he is already penned in to fight Pacquaio on June 28th at the same Mandalay Bay where they fought last night. If you want to really pump that fight up, show Diaz right before Pacquaio. Do not show him before Abner Mares. Back to Mares, no way his opponent Diodado Gabi should have been in the ring. He gained over 15 pounds from the weigh in to the fight and that tells you he drained himself of liquid to make the weight. Mares stopped him in 2 and it could have been sooner. Secondly, why all the yipping about the decision in the main event? I get it, close fight and both camps felt they won but enough already.
Would either side say it was not a close fight? If not, you have to understand the sport and the nature of how judges judge. It is all perspective and what each judge considers worthy of winning the round. I feel that if every close decision is questioned, the sport shoots itself in the foot. My audience felt Marquez won but no one yelled when Manny’s name was read as the victor and it was a split decision. Marquez made some money and he has plenty of options for his next bout. Manny will go up to 135 and face Diaz and that means Marquez can be right back in line for the belt he just gave up. The verbal sparring between the two camps at the end of the fight just seemed a bit out of place to me. Both sides should focus more on the great efforts each fighter gave and less on the judges. Great fight though and 2008 is off to a great start. Look out for Cassamayor against Katsidis this weekend, which should be fun too.

Bom Arum stated after the fight "Be man enough to accept the verdict of the judges...I don't care how you scored the fight." yelled promoter Bob Arum as he expressed his anger over the accusations of a controversial decision.
Do you agree with Bob or not ?

Real recognize Real and that's why Edgar Gonzalez looks so familiar!!!!! I had the exact same score for Marquez. My only difference in opinion is that I think Marquez got robbed! LOL. Pacquiao brings more money to boxing so therefore the same thing that makes the world go round (money) is the same difference maker that made Pacquiao win his bout. Too bad boxing fights couldn't be judged by a panel of 13 great unbiased judges. I get scared with the current judging system knowing that 2 bad judges are what is needed to create controversy. I wonder if anyone else agrees with a larger number of judges to decrease the chances of fixes and bad decisions????? No more crying for me but I put many thousands on Marquez to win :*(

I agree Jose, I think boxing needs younger judges. Rotate new faces in the mix so you can hope that there are no favorites or bias towards a particular fighter or promoter. It's time for Edgar and I to judge some fights!

well i only gave 3 maybe four rounds to pacquiao, but yeah i guess the judges saw a different fight,
about the diaz-pacquiao fight, come on we all know diaz is a strong fighter but he's no match for the fillipinian i think hes even stronger and more technical than David.

gotta disagree with jose's comment on pac man brings more money to boxing. its no secret that the latino fans are whats keeping boxing alive and are the majority of PPV buys now that the heavyweight div. is dead! and no secret that us latino fans support our latino boxers...

Ernie, I think that the Mexican fans help to carry the sport at this time but I think Pac has crossed over into a worldwide star as opposed to JMM, who is not as well known. In this particular fight, PacMan is the money and the draw over JMM but not over everyone. I still think Oscar is the #1 or #2 draw in the sport. Either way, great fight.

imo, the reason why pacmans making these huge paydays is because of who he
has been fighting. do you actually think his fights are going to continue to be big is he starts fighting a string of nobodies? pacmans a good fighter but he couldn't have come along at a better time with Morales,Barrera and Marquez at the tail end of their carrers. Either way "Great Fight"!

Hi Ernie,
Yes, I think PacMan will get huge ratings when he fights David Diaz and he is so beloved in his country that he could fight anyone and make $$$ for all involved. He has been fighting professionally since 1995 and he has faced the likes of Ledwaba, Auggie Sanchez and Lucero all on TV. His popularity has been building for years.

I have to agree with Ernie, I personally think there is no way Manny will make as much money as he did fighting Morales, Barrera or Marquez.
Fighting Diaz is not going to generate millions of dollars. You have to remember Manny was struggling to get 5 Million for Marquez; Diaz is not worth that much. It’s all down hill from here unless he gets a rematch with Marquez.
