There will be blood

I have been noticing things are starting to heat up about who’s going to win next Saturday Alfonso Gomez or Miguel Cotto.

Alfonso Gomez is a big underdog against Cotto, and some boxing fans believe Gomez might upset the Puerto Rican fans. The real question is can Gomez do what 31 other guys were unable to do - send Miguel Cotto back home to Puerto Rico as a loser ?

The Facts, I have said this before and I will say it again in boxing, it’s all about who you’ve beaten and not by gaudy records. Alfonso Gomez won 18 (KO 8) + 3 lost + 2 drawn. Looking back at Gomez’ last 5 fights Ben Tackie, Arturo Gatti, Martin Concepcion, Jones Carson and Jesse Feliciano. Yes Gomez did demolish Arturo Gatti in July of 2007 but come on guys you have to agree with me, Gatti was in his stages of retirement. Jesse Feliciano beat Gomez on February 2003 and the rematch ended in a draw in May 2006.

The Facts, Miguel Cotto won 31 (KO 25) + 0 lost + 0 draws now lets look at Cotto’s last 5 fights Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Oktay Urkal, Carlos Quintana and Paul Malignaggi. Cotto has beaten well known boxers and you can’t argue that fact, I’m not criticizing Gomez' recent opponents I’ am simply trying to proof a point.

Lots of boxing fans follow and favorite Gomez because of the reality show “The Contender” and his friendly personality which I agree, in the other hand Cotto is more conservative and shy.

Gomez does have an advantage his natural welterweight. Cotto hasn’t faced a natural welterweight, he beaten great fighters, but that come up from lower weight divisions like Mosley and Judah and Quintana and so on. Gomez also has motivation and heart being born from Guadalajara, Mexico to coming to America to fight as an amateur and pro and then his appearance in the reality show every step is another foot towards his dream and I am confident that boxing fans will get there moneys worth on April 12 and there will be blood till then we have to wait.

Cotto is going to kill Gomez and Cintron will do the same to Margarito. The next fight...Cotto/Cintron will be a classic with Cintron taking the prize!

i anticipate a win for Margarito over Cintron an easy one lol, about gomez-cotto,
Alfonso has a chance only if he did a good preparation, it will not be easy for him but i think he haves what it takes to be a boxing superstar and to get a win over cotto . even if he looses it will depens of how he does it!

Is very obvious that Cotto has a huge edge in experience not to mention has fought far better opposition. But to ALL the fans who have their heads far up Cotto's ass...I'll give a few reasons why Gomez is a live underdog.
    Reason #1
    The Contender Episode 1
The west coast team had to decide who would step up to the plate and fight highly regarded and undefeated prospect Peter Manfredo.Gomez jumped at the chance without hesitation, despite being the smallest guy on the show.He fought a freaking middleweight not only competitively but beat him handedly.
Nobody believe he could do it, but he prove everybody wrong
    Reason #2
    Arturo Gatti
Yes every boxing fan knows Gatti was past his prime. But he was still the clear favorite and thought of as the far superior and skilled fighter. At a time when all the contender stars were failing their "real contender fight test" Gomez passed with flying colors.
Nobody believe he could do it, but he prove everybody wrong
    Reason #3
Gomez is the natural welterweight and is useto fighting much bigger men, this will provide a boost of confidence over the stocky power punching Boricua.
    Reason#4
Everybody expects Cotto to steamroll over Gomez. All that Gomez has to do to gain respect and adoration is be competitive. This puts pressure on Cotto,if the inexperience soft punching Gomez gives him fits, what will the winner of Margarito vs. Cintron II do to him..
Cotto must win impressively.Gomez just has to stay on his feet.
    There you have it.
I want Gomez to win.Anybody can get UPSET anybody.I'll be just as satisfied with a competitive performance from the inexperience but gutsie Gomez.

One of the problems with a series like “The Contender” is that the fighters gain great exposure but aren’t necessarily world-class fighters. Then, because the public knows who they are, they get put into fights they’re not ready for or that they don’t deserve. I believe Cotto squashes Gomez.
