4 for sure!!!!

Today was tribute number 3 for the awesome Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez trilogy. The event took place in LA at the beautiful Tamayo Restaurant. Marquez won the first fight and Vazquez won the next two bouts and each and every round of their fights was intense and highly skilled. If you have not seen any of the fights, do yourself a favor and check all of them out. It is truly boxing the way it should be with both combatants showing true skill and huge hearts in each fight.

The third fight may have been one of the best of all time with the second winning round and fight of the year honors. Today’s tribute brought out some heavy hitters in the trilogy. On the Marquez side we had his whole team including his co-promoter Gary Shaw and on the Vazquez side he had his whole management team and the fantastic boxing organization from Sycuan Ringside Promotions who co-promotes Vazquez along with Golden Boy Promotions. Ken Hershman, Senior VP of Sports and Events programming for Showtime first spoke and then handed over to Gary Shaw.

Gary talked about how this trilogy "had thrills and excitement in every round." He also stated, "they will forever feel a part of boxing history with these three fights." Jamie Quintana who co-promotes Marquez stated, "Pay attention to that, a fourth fight is coming." When Gary was done speaking and team Marquez wrapped up, both fighters posed next to 2 big plaques that each fighter received for their part in this historic trilogy. Gary Shaw could not contain his opinion on a 4th fight and took the opportunity to raise 4 fingers many times for photo ops. Clearly, Marquez would love the opportunity to redeem him and Vazquez said he is ready to sign for a fourth fight right now! He also stated tongue in cheek that he would not mind a 2-3 million dollar purse for the 4th. Maybe not so much tongue in cheek though.

After food was served and a huge screen showed the 3rd fight, many power meetings took place in the restaurant featuring the brass from Showtime, Gary Shaw and Sycuan to name a few. One can only assume talks have begun on a 4th clash between these two fighters. There have been whispers of The Staples Center in LA as a possible destination for the 4th clash. Both fighters were gracious and posed for many pictures and signed many autographs. One can feel as though both need each other to a degree. These two fighters seem tailor made for each other and a 4th fight seems inevitable.
Marquez looks healed and had a dark tan and Vazquez looks good but had some visible scarring over his left eye and often wore shades during the tribute. It looks as if the 4th would be late 2008 or early 2009 but anything is liable to happen in these early talks.

Special thanks to Scott and Eddie Woodworth from Sycuan who helped put together a great trilogy and never gave up on Izzy Vazquez and his amazing talent and heart. Look out for Joan Guzman and Jorge Paez Jr. who are also under their banner and have bright futures. Many people have many opinions on an impending 4th tilt, how do you feel and can Marquez split the series? Let us know
